The South Carolina Story ELL/Modified Chapter Guide supplements the Teacher Guide with simplified lessons for English Language Learners and can also be used for streamlining lessons when time is short. For each chapter in the Student Edition, an ELL Teaching Tip, an introductory chapter activity, an activity for each lesson, illustrated word cards, a Quick Tour of the chapter, an activity page, an assessment, and answers are provided.

The South Carolina Story is a textbook program that meets the 2011 state-approved South Carolina Studies Academic Standards for Grade 3. The student textbook covers the history of South Carolina from prehistoric times to the persent, with an emphasis on how the state's history coincides with the history of the nation as intended by the state standards.
The South CarolinaStory Student Guide includes five activity pages for each lesson in the Teacher Guide: Activator, Key Vocabulary, Comprehension Strategy, Writing Portfolio, and Review Activity. These activities support the material in the Student Edition and promote critical thinking
The South Carolina Story Teacher Guide supports the Student Edition with multiple lesson activities focused on social studies, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, online research, and cross-curricular topics. It also includes resource lists for each lesson, thumbnails of accompanying Student Guide pages, chapter assessments, an answer key, and a set of Teacher Tools (maps, graphic organizers, and lesson support). The program is designed to support state standards as well as common core standards.
